Micro pig gets new lease of life thanks to Anim-Mates charity

A rescued micro pig has a new friend to play with after a charity took her in.

Animal charity Anim-Mates, based in Ash near Sevenoaks, took on Charlotte the micro pig after her original owners gave her up.

The nine-week-old pig originally belonged to a couple from Essex who handed Charlotte to their friend after they decided their home was not ideal to bring up a pig.

The friend contacted Anim-Mates who have previously warned people against buying micro pigs.

Wilbur, another pig, was given to the charity based in Olivers Farm, Ash, after he was shifted between three different homes.

Charity manager Teresa Bloomfield said: “Charlotte was excited to meet our Wilbur and they were soon chasing each other around a paddock and mixing with other animals who live at the sanctuary.

“At night the piglets have beds in the farmhouse. We put cat litter trays down for them and instinctively they used them without training or accidents.

“Sadly, the fashion to buy a pig as a pet has led to hundreds of them being abandoned or euthanised, once they outgrow their suburban habitats.”

But Charlotte has also made a special friend in Floyd, a black cockapoo.

KentOnline previously reporter how Floyd was found in on the roadside in Rainham dragging his back legs due to a deformity.

“My dogs also sleep in the house and Charlotte seems to be taken with Floyd, as she often shares his bed."

Escaped animals, unusual finds and news from the RSPCA can all be found here.
