Kemsing residents will receive new bus service following successful Big Community Fund application by Sevenoaks District Council

Residents in Kemsing are set to benefit from a new bus service following a successful grant awarded by Sevenoaks District Council.

Kemsing ward member Cllr Lorraine Stack made an application to the Council’s Big Community Fund and was awarded £750.

The grant will go towards helping to transport residents from Kemsing to Sevenoaks and back, after a local bus company suddenly withdrew the only Saturday bus service available to people needing to make a return journey from Sevenoaks after 3pm.

Go-Coach Ltd has agreed to run a six month trial for additional services with the agreement that the service doesn’t need to make a profit but does need to break even.

The cash will pay for three additional Saturday afternoon journeys and as well as publicity materials.

Cllr Roddy Hogarth, portfolio holder for economic and community development, said: "The Big Community Fund continues to offer communities support for maintaining or improving their local resources and this award illustrates how flexible the fund is.”

Anyone wishing to apply for the Big Community Fund grant, which can be a maximum of £3,000 per ward or £6,000 as a joint application with a neighbouring ward, must make applications via their local ward councillor.
