A new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is set to arrive in Sevenoaks this weekend.
Celebrating 200 years since the novel was published; a fresh stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice will play at The Stag Community Arts Centre on Saturday.
The show premiered at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds in 2013 and offers a brand new interpretation of one of the nation’s favourite love stories.
This adaptation sees two actors juggle the full gamut of Austen’s characters; they journey from the Meryton Assembly to the grounds of Pemberley; and take Darcy and Lizzy from instant dislike to something altogether more different, all in just two hours. Every word that is spoken is Austen’s.
In this adaption by Joannah Tincey, two actors bring to life Austen’s words. Joannah Tincey said: “I wanted to create an adaptation where the characters talk to the audience in the same way that Austen talks to her reader.
"By addressing the audience directly and allowing the characters to speak for themselves, we are bringing Jane Austen’s unique and witty writing style to life in a truly theatrical context.”
Pride and Prejudice is directed by Abigail Anderson with design by Dora Schweitzer, lighting design by Simon Wilkinson and sound design by Mark Melville.
It is adapted for the stage by Joannah Tincey and stars Joannah Tincey and Nicholas Underwood. It is produced by Richard Darbourne Ltd, whose recent productions include the 2014 UK Tour of Avenue Q, Barbershopera’s The Three Musketeers (UK Tour and South Korea) and All That Fall by Samuel Beckett starring Eileen Atkins and Michael Gambon and directed by Trevor Nunn.
The performance will start at 7.30pm and tickets are £15.
