A Sevenoaks fundraiser has taken a courageous 10,000ft dive for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Shirley Reeves, 69, has raised £2,700 for the charity by completely the knee-trembling parachute jump over Headcorn Airfield.
Marie Curie's professional nurses provide free, hands-on, care, to terminally ill people and enable families to make the most of the precious time they have left with relatives, in their own homes.
Shirley, from Plaxtol, said: "I was ready for a challenge so what could be better than being strapped to a dishy looking young guy, flying through the air and raising money for Marie Curie?
"That’s how I ended up above Headcorn Airfield, in a tightly fitting boiler-suit and helmet, sitting between the legs of the best looking instructor on site." - Shirley Reeves
"A gaggle of noisy friends were there to make sure I didn’t lose my nerve, but I enjoyed every moment. What an exhilarating experience the sky-dive was, and sponsors have, so far, donated around £2,700!”
Shirley is a member of Marie Curie’s Sevenoaks Fundraising Group and is keen to get more people invovled in helping the cause, she said: “If you’re considering a challenge, to raise money I say go for it! You'll love it!”
If you don't fancy throwing yourself from a plane 10,000ft up but still want to fund-raise, don't worry there are less extreme ways to take part.
Marie Curie’s 'Walk Ten'event offers a 10km sponsored walk through Sissinghurst Castle.
This year’s walk which will take place on Saturday July 19, will be the fourth, and so far £62,500 has been raised.
The charity hopes to recruit 1,000 participants and raise a further £55,000.
