Seal Kebab and Pizza fined after half-eaten burgers and an entire kebab skewer found dumped with receipts

A kebab shop has been fined more than £1,000 after partially eaten burgers and other food items were found dumped.

It comes after the rubbish was found in Church Street, Seal, near Sevenoaks, which was traced back to Seal Kebab and Pizza.

Three bags of dumped waste was found on Seal Recreation Ground which included a whole kebab on a skewer and a large pile of receipts from Seal Kebab and Pizza

In April, half-eaten burgers, plastic bags and paper were found and reported by a member of the public.

Seal Kebab and Pizza was given a fixed penalty notice for the offence.

However, in May, Sevenoaks council’s environmental investigations team discovered three bags of dumped waste at Seal Recreation Ground, which included a whole kebab skewer and a large pile of receipts from the same business.

But when the council sent the takeaway several letters it did not turn up to be interviewed regarding the incidents.

At Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 25, Oguzhan Karsandi, of 7 Oak Catering Ltd pleaded guilty to fly-tipping and failing in his duty of care.

He was fined a total of £1,512 which covered the offences, costs to the council and compensation for costs incurred from the clear-up.

Cllr Irene Roy, the council’s cabinet member for cleaner and greener said: “Our team tried on many occasions to work with Mr Karsandi to resolve this issue, but he continued to fail in his duty of care and was caught fly-tipping.

“Not only was the waste cleared up at a cost to the taxpayer, but it was also tipped in a well-used public space used by local families.

“As Mr Karsandi refused to heed our warnings, we had no choice but to take further action to protect our communities.”
