Three businesses and one residential property in Sevenoaks have recently benefitted from more than £10,000 in flooding grants.
Three separate applications were recently made in order to obtain cash from Sevenoaks District Council’s Business Flood Support Scheme.
Pipers Florist in Edenbridge was awarded £4,225.29 after applying.
The florist was flooded on Christmas Eve and lost stock meaning it was unable to trade for more than six months after.
Trevor Bryant Plumbing and Heating was also affected by the flooding and received £1,109.
The Edenbridge-based business was also flooded on Christmas Eve and subsequently sustained damage to lots of office equipment.
“If residents have been affected by the flooding time is running out to apply so I’d urge them to get in touch if they would like help to repair or protect properties against flooding" - Cllr Roddy Hogarth...
The Bill Skinner Studio was also affected and received £2,668.
The Otford-based company suffered damage to its shop, carpets, skirting and paintwork.
The electrics also had to be replaced and with the damage being so terrible it had to shut for five months resulting in a loss of trade and earnings.
The grants were made possible following funding from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with more than £143,000 still available to help businesses.
An application to the council’s Repair and Renew Grant was also successful with Brook House in Westerham receiving a grant of £4,800.
Portfolio holder for community grants, Cllr Roddy Hogarth, said: “If residents have been affected by the flooding time is running out to apply so I’d urge them to get in touch if they would like help to repair or protect properties against flooding.
"This is a great scheme to take advantage of.”
Funding is available as part of the Business Flood Support Scheme for one-off grants of up to £25,000 for small to medium sized businesses which have been affected by flooding between December, 1 2013 and March, 31 2014.
The cash should be used to pay for work which improves a property's ability to withstand future flooding over and above repairs that would normally be covered by insurance.
Residents need to lodge their applications by Friday, October 24.
