A dramatic police chase involving three forces across the South East has seen parts of the M25 closed this morning.
Kent, Surrey and the Metropolitan police were said to have been called in for the pursuit which left a segment of the M25 sectioned off to all traffic in the early hours.
It ended with a collision near Junction 4 - with the M25 blocked anti-clockwise between Junctions 5 (M26) and 4 near Orpington - though it's not yet known at this stage if it was a tactical police manoeuvre which brought the vehicle to a halt.
National Highways was called in to assist with the clear-up operation.
All traffic was temporarily held while debris was removed from the carriageway.
Traffic halted anti-clockwise between J5 and J4 was released at around 3.30am.
One lane and the exit slip road at Junction 4 were subsequently re-opened at around 6.30am, though the inside lane remained closed to allow recovery of the stranded vehicle involved.
Motorists were advised to approach the area with caution owing to emergency services continuing to work in the area.
Delays were reported.
