A crash involving three vans blocked the M26 motorway this evening.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway at about 6pm, resulting in three miles of queues.

Traffic was initially held and police and fire crews were called.

There were reports of debris in the road and an oil spillage.

Highways England warned drivers to take care in the area and said journeys were taking an extra half-an-hour.

As of 7.40pm, the congestion was said to have been easing after the accident was cleared.
