Travellers at Platt Primary School in Maidstone ordered to move on

A group of travellers who destroyed a school's playing field have been given their marching orders.

The camp at Platt Primary in Maidstone Road, St Mary's Platt, near Sevenoaks, was set up on Friday.

It is understood that rubbish and dog mess had been left on the field and that a fence was broken.

However, the travellers are believed to have moved on after action from Kent County Count and Kent Police.

A KCC spokesman said: “Kent County Council has liaised with Kent Police over the removal of vehicles from a field off the A25 Maidstone Road at Platt, near Sevenoaks.

"The Local Authority has been informed that Kent Police issued an order under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 this morning, giving the owners of the vehicles 24 hours to leave the site. The land belongs to KCC and is the sports field of Platt Church of England Primary School.

"However, the field is a short walk away from the main school site and therefore the children’s school day has not been significantly disrupted beyond the inability to use the field.”
