Action will be taken to move on a large group of travellers that set up camp next to a main road in Sevenoaks last night.

The caravans appeared in parkland at the corner of London Road and Brittains Lane, where they remain.

The land is owned by the town council and clerk Linda Larter said the process to move on the dozen or so vehicles is already underway.

She said: "We hope we will be able to move them on within a week."

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 5.45pm on 27 July, 2016 to reports of a traveller incursion on land, close to the junction of London Road and Brittains Lane, Sevenoaks.

"The matter will be dealt with by the landowner, which is the standard procedure in terms of any eviction process. The landowner on this occasion is the local authority."
