KENT Police have arrested a lorry driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal collision in which four people were killed.
The four victims, believed to be two adults and two children, were travelling in a car when the tragedy happened on Tuesday on the M25 near Sevenoaks.
Police say the victims are thought to have lived in south London.
The driver of the lorry, a 54-year old man from Surrey, was treated in hospital for chest injuries and shock. He was later arrested and is now in police custody.
The incident happened just before junction 5 on the anti-clockwise carriageway at 10.35am on Tuesday when a Foden large goods vehicle and the a Volkswagen car collided.
The M25 was re-opened after the vehicles were recovered and repairs carried out to the road.
Officers from Kent’s serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
Sergeant Nick Silvester from the unit said: "Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this collision. We would also like to speak to anyone who saw the red Foden large goods vehicle and blue Volkswagen car being driven on the motorway before the collision."
