The Kent Golf Veterans League has concluded its annual Pairs Championship with the winners coming from Redlibbets Golf Club.
Forty-four teams from all over the region competed at Broome Park for what is also known as the Golfstream Challenge Trophy.
Eventual winners Andy Burton and David Fowler of Redlibbets finished with an outstanding 44 points, two ahead of their nearest rivals.
The delighted winners were presented with the crystal trophy and £200 vouchers by Derek Richford, managing director of event sponsor Golfstream.
Dave Jessop and Tony Hastings from Rochester and Cobham were rewarded with second place over the home team pairing of Tony McIntyre and Jimmy Miller after a countback was required to separate the two teams.
Mr Richford said: “To have so many players competing for this year’s pairs championship is a testament to the great standing that this league has with players in the south east of England.
“We are delighted to support the Kent Golf Veterans League and we congratulate everyone that has taken part and look forward to seeing new contenders next year.”
KGVL secretary Barry Sweetman added: “It was an exceptional day, played in the true spirit of golf and we have some worthy winners who have triumphed with an impressive points tally.
“To have a countback to determine second and third places demonstrates the quality of the golf that has been played.
“Those days can only be achieved by the enthusiasm shown by hundreds of senior golfers around the county, the understanding and hard work of the hosting clubs and the extreme generosity over the last few years of our sponsor, Golfstream Ltd.
“On behalf of the KGVL I would personally like to extend my thanks to everyone involved.”
The next event in the calendar for the KGVL is the Singles Championship at Canterbury Golf Club which takes place tomorrow (Friday).
