POLICE are investigating two major un-related assaults in a Kent town which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The first occurred at around midnight when a 22-year-old woman was hit on the head by a man who approached her from behind as she turned into St Katherine's Road from Danley Road in Sheerness.
She offered the man her money and threw it to the ground. He picked up the money and she fell and hit her head on a parked car.
Police are keen to speak to a man who was driving a white car, a Ford Escort or Modeo who stopped to check she was OK. A man is currently in police custody.
The second incident in which a 34-year-old man from Orpington received serious head and facial injuries happened at about 3.20am.
The victim had intervened in a row between a man and woman in Beach Street. He is in a stable condition at Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital.
A 25-year-old Sheerness man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is helping police enquiries.
