Sheerness was in festive mood for the second weekend in a row on Saturday.
After last week’s successful event organised by the town council which featured Minster on Sea Rotary Club’s Santa Saunter and the Big Fish lantern parade, the Sheerness Town Team took over the Broadway for its Christmas fair.
Despite early rain, the event went ahead with children’s funfair rides including a roundabout, test your strength stall and giant fun house which stretched across the road.
Town Team chairman Phil Crowder said: “Despite the early rain, the event went really well.
Many shoppers told us they were delighted to see so much happening in the town centre in the run-up to Christmas.”
The event was put together by Sheila Smith.
She said: “Many stallholders told me they could not get to the town council’s event and wanted another chance to sell their wares.
“Because of the bad weather, some understandably pulled out. But those who came said they had a good day’s trading.”
Funfair boss Carlos Christian, who runs the Iwade-based C&J Attractions with his wife Jemma, said: “It was great being in Sheerness again. We are always given such a warm welcome.”
He added: “A little rain never stops us. We often encounter much worse. The other weekend we were outside working in sub-zero temperatures!”
The town team also staged its competition for best shop winter window display which was judged by the Sheppey carnival court.
First prize went to House To Home boss Kevin Freshwater for his Grinch display.
Second prize went to Balloonatic. Third went to Let’s Get Crafting.
Certificates and cup were presented by Junior Miss Sheppey Lola Dalton, nine, and Sheppey Rosebud Delilah-Beau Collins, seven.
