Rowing, cycling and running the equivalent of a journey to Bangladesh was just one of the activities on Thursday when pupils at Isle of Sheppey Academy marked a year since Oasis took over its running.
Youngsters headed to Minster, Eastchurch and Queenborough primary schools to read the popular children’s book, The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Pupils at both academy sites undertook the energetic task of rowing, cycling and running the equivalent distance to Bangladesh to raise money for a partner school in the Asian country.
In other anniversary celebrations, pupils served tea and cake to residents from Sheppey care homes, while Oasis Academy founder the Rev Steve Chalke gave a speech.
Mayor of Swale Cllr George Bobbin and Mayoress Brenda Bobbin were among VIP guests and helped cut a first birthday cake.
The Academy Glee Club put on a song and dance show, which also included a performance from members of the London Welsh Male Voice Choir.
Academy spokesman Marion Jones said: “It was a great day.
“It’s going to be an annual event where we come together to give us the opportunity to reflect on the progress we’ve made in our achievements as individuals and as an academy.”
