Sheppey kite surfer injured at Minster Leas beach

Emergency crews and an air ambulance were called to a beach to aid an injured kite surfer.

A road was closed after ambulances were called to Minster Leas, Sheppey, this afternoon where a man participating in a water-sports activity suffered a leg injury.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "We were called at approximately 12.30pm to reports of an injured kite surfer.

"Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance Service.

"A man was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by road with injuries including a leg injury."

Kent Police confirmed they were also called.

A spokesman said: "Officers arrived at 1.08pm to a medical incident they assisted H.M. Coastguard and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"Officers briefly closed the road while emergency services were at the scene."

Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) confirmed they were dispatched but said crew were stood down before reaching the patient.
