Fund-raising drive to help improve Queenborough Harbour facilities

Queenborough Harbour Trust has launched an adopt-a-plank scheme to help raise funds.
Under the initiative, Islanders, visitors, businesses and organisations can buy plaques engraved with their name and a personal message which will be installed on the newly refurbished all-tide landing.
Proceeds will go towards improving services and moorings at Queenborough Harbour in the hopes of attracting more tourism to the Island.
The all-tide landing, which is nearing completion, has 1,200 planks and the trust is looking for each one to be adopted. About 50 have been claimed already.
Queenborough Harbour Trust is a not-for-profit organisation which oversees the running of the moorings and it is hoping to raise £50,000 to further develop facilities fit for the 21st century.
The plaques are available in two varieties – £50 will secure a whole plank and a gold plaque with a personalised message and £25 will pay for half a plank with a silver plaque and message.
Trust spokesman Geof Reed said: “We are looking to reach out to all members of the local community and beyond to support putting in additional services and facilities at Queenborough Harbour.
“The positive support that we are getting is encouraging.”
The restored all-tide landing will provide a vital link for visitors mooring up at the recently installed floating pontoon to walk safely and easily to shore.
It had previously fallen into disrepair after two decades of exposure to the elements and was closed on safety grounds.
