British Transport Police launch investigation of signalling cable damaged between Sheerness on Sea and Queenborough stations

Transport police are appealing for witnesses as they try to establish who damaged signalling cables at the weekend.

Trains were halted between Sheerness and Queenborough station throughout Saturday morning for repairs to take place.

Southeastern and Network Rail both reported the cable was stolen.

British Transport Police has now clarified no cable was stolen, but it was damaged, causing major rail problems on the Island.

BTP was called at 3.20am on Saturday.

A spokesman said: "Officers are currently making a number of enquiries to establish when the caballing was damaged and who is responsible. No cable was stolen during the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 57 of 05/01/2018."
