A fun day organised by a team preparing to take part in the Race for Life has boosted sponsorship.

Fundraising day to raise money for Bal Cheema's Pink Ladies Race for Life team

Bal Cheema, who runs the Cheema Brothers and Avenue Food and Wine shops and Cheema’s Restaurant and Bar in Sheerness, held the event on Saturday.

They were also promoting the cause outside the stores on Friday.

Bal and a group of friends who call themselves Cheema’s Pink Ladies will be walking 5k in the Cancer Research UK event in Maidstone on Sunday, July 7.

As well as face-painting and a bouncy castle, there was also a Britain’s Got Talent-style competition.

It has boosted the team’s funds to more than £1,100.

Mrs Cheema said: “We have had a fantastic response and raised loads of money.”
