A bench has been installed in memory of a Tesco worker who died suddenly.

Brett King passed away at his home in Elder Walk, Minster, in March 2010, aged 23.

On the second anniversary of his death earlier this year, dozens of his friends and family got together to release balloons in his memory.

Money raised from that, added to an in-store collection which customers contributed to, raised £400 to pay for the bench.

It has been put up outside the store in Bridge Road, Sheerness, where Brett worked for about eight years, along with a photo of him and a plaque.

On Father’s Day, Brett’s long-term girlfriend Charmaine Sellen took the couple’s 18-month-old son Blake down to the bench to lay some flowers.

She found out she was expecting their child a few days after Brett’s funeral.

Brett’s mum Karen, of Scrapsgate Road, Minster, thanked everyone who donated and said it is nice to have the bench as a place to go and remember him as his ashes are kept at their home.

“It’s so nice that he’s still loved and remembered by everyone,” she said.

Each year money raised from the Dore Metals Sheppey Sunday League’s Brett King Senior Charity Cup is given to the family to donate to charity.
