A campaign to raise money for a toddler had a boost of almost £1,000, with two events organised in aid of the Oliver Smith Appeal at the weekend.

The family of the three-year-old, who has the childhood cancer neuroblastoma, are trying to raise £150,000 for treatment in Germany if his condition worsens.

On Saturday, Bounce DMT and Trampoline Club held a charity bounce at the Isle of Sheppey Academy’s east site in Minster Road, Minster, organised by club co-founders Thomas Everingham and Hannah Curling.

Dozens of people went along to try out trampolining and see what else the club has to offer.

Hannah also made cakes and there were trampoline games. It raised £110 for the appeal.

On Sunday, there was an open pairs darts competition at the Queen’s Head pub in High Street, Sheerness.

Almost 30 teams took part and it was won by Richard Hope and Darren Bootes.

There was also a raffle with prizes including a cuddly Bully from the Bullseye TV show and an auction of tickets for the Gillingham vs Barnet game.

In total the event raised £850, which included the winners donating their prize money.

The event was for the Barry Friday Memorial Trophy, which was set up 20 years ago in memory of Mr Friday, who used to play darts on Sheppey before he passed away.

One of the organisers, Brian Williams, said: “We are very pleased with how much was raised and would like to thank everyone who donated prizes and everyone who took part and helped out.”

With the weekend’s events added in, Islanders have now raised a staggering £68,182.

On Friday, April 20, there will be an Old Skool Garage Night at Tantra nightclub, off Bridge Road, Sheerness.

As well as a host of DJs and MCs, there will be guest appearances from some of the cast of The Only Way Is Essex.

Oliver’s mum Natalie, of Coral Road, Minster, said Oliver was at hospital last week having tests.

The results are due on Wednesday and will show if there have been any changes to Oliver’s remaining tumours in his head and leg, or if any new ones have grown.
