Cheapest Kent home? Bungalow in Warden Bay, Sheppey, on the market for £20,000

Is this Kent's cheapest home?

The one-bedroom detached bungalow is on sale for the jaw-dropping price of £20,000 - more than 15 times cheaper than the county's average house price.

The property in Warden Bay on the Isle of Sheppey is just over an hour's drive from London and a five-minute walk from the beach.

But there is a catch: it is a holiday home which can only be lived in for 10 months of the year.

In a Rightmove listing, Sheerness estate agents Mann Countryside describe the brick-built chalet as “the perfect retreat” with a lounge, fitted kitchen and “good-sized bedroom” complete with en-suite shower room.

It boasts: “Warden Bay is within walking distance to Leysdown-on-Sea where you can spend hours of fun on the 2p slot machines and eat a delicious fish-and-chip lunch.

“There are also bus routes to Sheerness town centre, the train station and supermarkets.”

The property includes window blinds outside and an electric shutter for the front door.

Lynn Collins, branch manager at the estate agents’ Broadway office, admitted: “It is our top-performing property for website views but the 10-month accommodation does put quite a few people off.

“However, it’s a proper brick-built bungalow and can always be rented out.”

The home, which can only be lived in from March 1 to December 31, is on Saddlebrook Holiday Park and has recently been reduced from £25,000.

Any buyer must be prepared to pay cash and will have to stump up around £3,000 a year for ground rent and management charges.

By contrast, a run-down garage on a small plot of land in posh Chelsea was snapped up for £500,000 in 2014, making it the most expensive garage in Britain.
