A family cat has been reunited with its owners after being stolen from its front garden.

Mitsy the black and white cat was sat on a fence in Unity Road, Sheerness, on Saturday, August 7, when two teenage girls were seen picking up the 19-year-old feline and walking off with her.

Owner Mykal Green was left shocked and worried when he received a call from his neighbour to say Mitsy wasn't on the fence anymore.

"We immediately went out searching and put loads of stuff on Facebook to get the information out there," he said.

"We got so much support it was amazing and at around 10pm the next day I was in my bedroom when I heard a bang on the fence.

"I ran downstairs and outside and saw Mitsy sitting on the fence crying.

"She was stressed and very thirsty but as soon as she came back into our house she was so happy she knew where she was within five minutes she was going straight upstairs to sleep on my bed for the night."

Mykal explained police are still investigating the cat-napping but have been left baffled as to why anyone would do something like that.

"People said they saw the girls pick up the cat and walk off towards Austin's News 4 U and Halfway.

"I was very worried what would happen to her, especially when I heard they were walking towards Halfway near the canal. I was fearing the worst."

The 26-year-old was overwhelmed by the amount of support he received online, and admitted he doesn't think Mitsy would be home now without their help.

He added: "We are so happy to have her back she was very warm so she was clearly bought back by either the girls or the girls' parents.

"I want to say a massive thank you to the people who helped spread the word that she was stolen and all the information that they gave."

A police spokesman said: "At 6.42pm on Saturday, August 7 Kent Police received a report of a cat being stolen by two people in the Unity Street area of Sheerness.

"The cat has since returned to its owner however, the circumstances continuing to be assessed."
