Swale House

Community groups still have a chance to get their hands on a share of £20,000.

Swale’s 47 borough councillors were given £1,250 to award to small-scale projects and there is still some money left.

The grants were announced through the local engagement forums last summer.

Although almost £40,000 has been allocated to projects across Swale, some councillors still have funds available and the deadline for the council to receive applications is Thursday, March 3.

Any organisation which has a project to benefit the local community can apply for some of the money for things such as buying equipment.

For more information, contact your local councillor, convince them of the value of the project, and submit an application with their support.

Cllr John Morris, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “Swale’s councillors have been delighted to help small-scale community projects through the grant money available.

“Even a small amount of money can make a big difference to local groups, so we really want to hear from worthwhile causes that require funding.

“We hope that people will take the time to apply for the funding and then come along to the forums to see who is allocated the money and to ask questions about local services and question the decision-makers of Swale, raising points of concern they have about what goes on where they live.

“The forums are where we listen to the public and are a vital part of the democratic process.

“Applicants should have support from their local councillor, but I would welcome applications without.

“I will then lobby councillors for support on behalf of the applicant.”
