Consultation launched into Minster school zebra crossing

A consultation has been launched into the possibility of a zebra crossing outside the Isle of Sheppey Academy.
Designs proposed by Kent Highways include a new vehicle activated slow sign, meaning there would be one either side of the school entrance on Minster Road, Minster.
Other proposed changes include putting in a stretch of high friction surfacing, moving a bus stop slightly further away from the area and new keep clear road markings.
A Kent County Council spokesman said: "Letters about the consultation were dropped to residents living in properties adjacent to the scheme.
"When the consultation comes to a close, all the responses will be analysed and the next steps for the scheme will be decided."
Residents have until January 14 to respond. The consultation is being dealt with by existing KCC staff, at no extra cost to the taxpayer.
In 2009, we reported the Swale Joint Transportation Board ruled out a pedestrian crossing, despite a petition calling for one as residents felt the small island crossing was insufficient for the number of children who use it.
The situation has been under review by Kent Highways and it is now listed as a potential "casualty reduction measure" site, meaning they are looking at the possibility of installing one.
