Roundabout by Cowstead Corner on Lower Road, Sheppey, blocked after digger flips over

Part of a road was blocked for more than two hours after a digger flipped over.

The roundabout near Cowstead Corner on the A2500 Lower Road on Sheppey was closed earlier today.

Pictures show the machinery completed turned on its side, with workers setting up cones to divert traffic.

One driver said on a local Facebook group that there was no way through Lower Road from Cowstead Corner.

Those heading to Eastchurch and Leysdown were being asked to find alternative routes.

A spokesman from the police said: “We were called at 9.54am after a digger had fallen from a trailer being towed on the A249 Queenborough Road, Minster-on-Sea.

“Patrols attended the scene to assist highways officers until the digger was recovered.”

More than two hours later, the road was cleared. Traffic had returned to normal just after 1pm.
