31-mile police chase to Faversham after disturbance at Leysdown pub on Sheppey

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after a 31-mile police chase following a disturbance at a pub.

Stingers were deployed to stop a van after attempts to evade officers led to the lengthy pursuit.

Police were called at around 9.30pm on Thursday (August 22), after damage was allegedly caused at a pub in Leysdown Road, Leysdown.

A man left in a van and officers found the vehicle before requesting the driver to stop.

However, the driver continued for more than 30 miles pursued by patrols that were assisted by a helicopter.

A stinger device was deployed on the A2 near Brenley Corner in Faversham and a specialist road traffic team surrounded the vehicle.

A picture taken from above was shared via the Kent Roads Policing (RPU) page on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It said: “This was the moment the game was up for a drunk driver who led police on a 31-mile long pursuit.”

A man from Chatham was arrested on suspicion of multiple driving offences and criminal damage.

He was bailed until Thursday, November 21 while the investigation continues.
