Explosion fear at shop blaze

Firefighters are dealing with a large blaze at Newbie News in Leysdown

Firefighters are at the scene of a huge fire at a shop in Leysdown.

Three pumps are currently fighting the fire at the rear of Newbie News in Leysdown Road, and another crew is believed to be on the way.

It is thought police have been called to cordon off the road as there are gas cylinders nearby.

The blaze started at about 2.41pm this afternoon.

The fire is believed to have started in boxes which were in the garden of the shop.

Newbie News is not currently trading, but it is thought new owners have recently taken it on and were getting ready to open up for business.

Police are also on the scene and the road has been cordoned off.
