Schoolgirl Shannon Dowsett, missing from her Queenborough home

A 13-year-old girl missing from the Isle of Sheppey has been found safe after returning to school this afternoon.

Police today made a public appeal to find Shannon Dowsett, from Queenborough and who attends the Brompton Academy in Gillingham.

She disappeared after last being seen by friends in Gillingham High Street at 4pm yesterday.

Police appealed for the public's help in tracing Shannon after her family reported her missing at about 10pm.

Her grandmother Loraine Wilson said at about 1pm today: "My grandaughter is safe and now with the police. We would like to thank all for their help. On our way to get her."
