A film crew was spotted on the Isle of Sheppey today.

Production and camera staff were seen filming a commercial for French car maker Renault.

Traffic was stopped on the Sheppey Way, near the old Kingsferry Bridge, this afternoon while the shots were recorded.

The Kent Film Office's Gabrielle Lindemann confirmed they were shooting a commercial.

She said: "They wanted open-sky landscapes and are only filming today. They are at a couple of locations on the Island.

"They've been on the old bridge and out on the marshes at Harty, I wish it could've been a nicer day with better weather for them.

"The plan was to film on the mainland but I suggested the Island and they liked that better.

"They applied for traffic management so they are stopping the cars between shots but for no more than about three minutes at a time."

As part of filming they had remote controlled camera drones up in the air.

A Renault spokesman said: "Yes, we are shooting marketing material on the Isle of Sheppey.

"This location was chosen primarily for the suitability and logistical purposes."

It is not clear if Sheppey will make the cut but it is not the first time the Island's roads have featured on TV.

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson visited in 2012 to shoot the programme in Queenborough and Leysdown.

More recently, Songs of Praise - which was aired on Sunday - was filmed over two days in November.

Viewers of the ITV series Dark Heart will also recognise scenes shot in Leysdown last year.

The emotional six part thriller was aired in November.
