Firefighters dashed to a town centre high street this afternoon to repair a shop sign.

The crew drove 500m with blue lights flashing from their station to health food company Holland & Barrett after shoppers reported the green fascia was hanging off the wall.

Firefighters used a stepladder and screwdriver to re-attach the sign before driving off.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Crews were called to make a shop sign safe which was overhanging a public footpath.

"Where there is a risk to the public we do attend this sort of call."
