Mr Taylor moved down to Sheppey from London in 2008 and quickly became involved with the local community by setting up two senior citizens' clubs.

He chaired the Big Local Eastern Sheppey Partnership from 2017 and sat on Swale council’s Scrutiny Committee, from 2018 to 2019.

Cllr Paul Stephen, Mayor of Swale, said: “On behalf of Swale council, I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of former councillor Lynd Taylor who has sadly passed away.

"He was devoted to working for the local community and making improvements to Sheppey East.

"Outside of his term on the council, he was chairman of Big Local, a trustee of the Eastern Sheppey Community Hub and a founding member of the Warden Bay Residents Association.

"He will be greatly missed by all of us in the Sheppey Conservatives where he was vice-chairman."
