Two women have pushed their vanity to one side to help raise money for charity.

Deanne Tindall and Lisa Dimmack have made the ‘bald’ decision to have their locks shaved off in memory of their loved ones who have died from cancer.

The grand gesture will take place at The Summoner pub in Sittingbourne High Street at 9pm on Saturday, May 31 but it won’t necessarily be their friends or family who will take the clippers to their shoulder length tresses.

Instead the pair, who have known each other since they attended Rowena High School for Girls (now known as Sittingbourne Community College) together, will be asking people at the watering-hole to bid for the chance to snip off a number of their plaits along with the ‘mane’ event to strip them bare of their hair.

All monies raised on the night as well as through sponsorship will be split between The Wisdom Hospice in Rochester which serves those living in Medway and Swale, and Cancer Research UK. Their target is to raise £1,000 for each cause.

Miss Tindall, 39, of River View, Rushenden, is doing it in honour of her aunt Dorothy Hardy who lost her battle against lung cancer in May last year and her partner Rob Holmes’s wife Lucy who passed away from bowel cancer in April 2013 aged 30.

The mum-of-one said: “I’m terrified but really excited. We keep standing in front of the mirror and scrapping our hair back to see what we’re going to look like.”

Mrs Dimmack, also 39, of First Avenue, Rushenden, is doing it as a tribute to her dad Derek Wakelen who succumbed to the disease at the age of 36.

The mum-of-two said: “I’m really nervous. When I think about it I shake, but I’m also feeling excited and very proud of myself.”
