Blazing sunshine meant Minster Rotary Club’s eighth annual beer festival went down a treat with punters.

The group’s president, Phil Chislett, welcomed guests to the Aviator at Queenborough Corner, where he is the manager.

A range of 42 beers and ciders from all over the UK were available in the real ale tent with lagers, wine and soft drinks sold inside the building and an inflatable pub hired for the occasion.

Larger crowds than last year mean organisers expect their target fund-raising total of £10,000 to be exceeded, which will go towards good causes on the Island.

Early arrivals were treated to music from the Abbey Ukelele Band who played a set of traditional tunes and pop songs while later in the afternoon a selection of eight rock and blues bands, including Stoned, The Narratones, Slipway, The Rockin’ Decades and Beggars Belief, provided further musical entertainment.

There were more than 30 rotarians on duty including some drafted in from the Medway branch and special guests from a Rotary Club in Illinois, USA.

The food stall was again run by Sheppey Diving Club, fresh seafood was available from Queenborough Harbour and Dave and Fiona Anderson were raising funds for a school they support in Kenya.

Minster Rotary Club spokesman Kevin Roberts said: “Everyone had a fantastic day at what has become a great annual fundraising event, a popular place once a year to meet old friends.

“The president wishes to thank the many people who make the event so successful, including the many sponsors.”
