A new way to raise money for poorly toddler Oliver Smith has been launched.
Anyone wishing to donate to the three-year-old, who has the childhood cancer neuroblastoma, can now send funds via text.
Oliver’s family is trying to collect £150,000 to pay for treatment he could need in Germany if his condition gets worse.
To donate, text OLIS99 and the amount you want to give (from £1 – £10) to 70070.
The donation will be included in your bill or deducted from your pay-as-you-go balance.
Since last June, generous Islanders have raised thousands of pounds for the Oliver Smith Appeal.
To help give it a boost, a fundraising Old Skool Garage Night has been organised.
It will take place at Tantra nightclub, off Bridge Road, Sheerness, on Friday, April 20, from 9pm.
As well as DJs and MCs including Miracle MC, MC Creed, Sparks and Kie, Danger K and Deejay Excel, there will be guest appearances from some of the cast of reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex.
It has been organised by Stacey Gibson, from Minster, and her friend Julie O’Neill, from Sheerness.
They both work at the town’s NatWest branch and know Oliver and his mum Natalie, of Coral Road, Minster, from when they pop in to pay money into the appeal account.
The 27-year-old said: “The fundraising has gone really, really quiet so we decided we wanted to do something.
“We think the garage night will bring in quite a big crowd.
“Personally I feel very passionate about it – my grandad had cancer and recovered but after sitting back and thinking about life it made me want to do something.”
The appeal has had another boost after a collection bucket at the Albion pub in Blue Town was emptied.
It had £380 in it which means the total now stands at £67,222.
Oliver and Natalie are members of Families Against Neuroblastoma.
It is a charity which aims to support families and fund research into the condition.
The £150,000 they are trying to raise is to pay for a trip to Germany for treatment for Oliver which he will need if he has a relapse.
There is an 80% – 95% chance of this happening up until he is 20 years old.
Natalie wants to raise the money now so that if Oliver does relapse, they can go straight away rather than have a last-minute panic to get the cash together.
If it turns out he does not need the money, it will be donated to causes related to neuroblastoma.
