A teenage girl had to be winched to safety after falling down cliffs.

Emergency services teams were called to Warden Point on Sheppey at about 6.20pm yesterday.

Sheppey coastguard spokesman Tim Judge said: "As we understand, a teenage girl tumbled down the cliffs near the Warden Springs Holiday Park.

"She was uninjured, luckily," he added.

The Sheerness RNLI was also called.

A spokesman said: "The inshore lifeboat launched at 6.59pm after being called by the UK Coastguard to reports of a person trapped below the cliffs at Warden Point.

"The Sheppey coastguard rescue team and an ambulance crew were already in attendance and the coastguard helicopter from Lydd was on its way.

"Once at the scene, the lifeboat crew stood by whilst the casualty was winched to safety by the helicopter crew and from there the person was transferred to the waiting ambulance.

"The lifeboat was released at 7.52pm."

"The incident was reported to us shortly after 5.30pm," he said.

"One person was located but they were discharged from our care at the scene and didn't require onward hospital transport."

Police confirmed the girl did not sustain any serious injuries.

A spokesman said officers were called to a report a teenage girl was injured on a cliff in Jetty Road, Warden, at 5.54pm.

"The coastguard brought the girl to safety and it was established that she had not sustained any serious injuries," he added.
