A dog that was left 'gravely ill' and wandering the streets has had her life turned around and is ready for adoption.

Liza, an American bully, was found in Sheerness weighing half what she should during the summer.

Today, Swale Borough Council's dog warden, Mel Herbert, who was involved in rescuing Liza, was reunited with her at Valgrays Border Collie and Animal Rescue.

A spokesman said: "The last time they saw each other was when Liza was gravely ill, so it was a very emotional reunion.

"Liza's a wonderful dog and when the time comes, she'll be an asset to any family."

In August, Liza weighed just 14.4kg, and a virus was ravaging her body resulting in thick green snot and a raspy cough.

Mel said: “Liza is flourishing and is now ready to be rehomed.

“She has a beautiful, friendly temperament and is good with other dogs and people.

"She really is a joy to be around and will be a lovely addition to any home.

“After being found in Sheerness this summer in bad health and weighing just 13 kilos at her lowest, Liza is now healthy, has been spayed and her weight continues to increase.

“Unfortunately, the one issue that couldn’t be fixed is Liza’s vision.

"A visit to an eye specialist confirmed that she had suffered significant head trauma that had permanently damaged her retinas, and she will eventually go blind.

“It’s important that she finds her forever home now, so that she can learn her way around her new home, before losing her eyesight completely.
