Bandstand being built on the Spinney, Leysdown

Islanders are being asked to help raise money for a new bandstand to commemorate the First World War.
Leysdown Parish Council has earmarked a site on The Spinney in The Promenade, Leysdown, for a platform with wrought iron railings.
It is hoped the site will become a permanent fixture for things like open air concerts, Salvation Army band shows and events by community organisations.
It will cost around £30,000 which the local authority will pay something towards but it will also look for grants.
Cllr David Purssord said the council will be appealing to members of the public for donations to make up the rest of the money.
He said: “We would like to get it installed by August if possible but it’s early stages. We want to make sure we’ve got the funds and we’ve got to get planning to approve the size and shape of it.
“The idea originally came from the parish council 20 years ago.”
There would be a chance for people who help to make the bandstand happen to have a plaque with their name put on the side.
