Magistrates have agreed with a drink driver who said he “****** up”.

Police went to speak to Kevin Keeley at the side of the road after a minor crash in Sheerness last December, but he drove off with two passengers inside.

When police stopped him in The Broadway, Minster, he stumbled into officers while getting out of his Ford Focus.

Under interview, the 33-year-old told police: “I wish I’d never come to this ******* island. I’ve ****** up."

Referring to his attempts to avoid police, Mr Keeley said: "I just wanted to try my luck."

A breath test at Sittingbourne Police Station revealed Keeley had 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of alcohol. The legal limit is 50mg.

Maidstone magistrates heard this was the third time he had been caught driving under the influence.

Chair of the bench Adrian Atmore said: “You were trying your luck with everyone’s lives who was on the road that day.

"We see every day in the papers and on television people die and people get injured because people drink and drive.

"You say you tried your luck, well you put all those people at risk.

"You said you’re ashamed of yourself. You should be.

“You used swear words to indicate what you did and the court agrees with those sentences. You did."

Keeley, of no fixed address, was given a 46-month driving ban and ordered to pay £227 in fines and costs.
