An inmate who bit a prisoner officer in a row over a dressing gown has been handed a new sentence.

While at HMP Elmley on the Isle of Sheppey, Klayton Rose sunk his teeth into his victim's wrist, leaving a deep wound, after he was challenged for wearing a dressing gown in an area where they weren't permitted.

The incident happened in June 2019 while the 35-year-old was serving an 11 year sentence for aggravated burglary which took place outside of the county.

The injured officered required hospital treatment after the assault.

Rose, who is now at a different prison, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, November 3, after admitting inflicting actual bodily harm, totalling one year and eight months.

Detective Constable Simon Mather, Kent Police’s investigating officer for the case, said: "Rose has shown that, despite serving a considerable amount of time in prison already, he has a propensity for violence. It is entirely proportionate for him to face more time in custody.

"Prison officers play an important role in the criminal justice system. While they understand that their job can open them up to challenging situations, assaults against them are intolerable and should never be viewed as something they have to accept."
