A government planning inspector will have the final say on whether hundreds of homes will be built on Sheppey.

Plans for up to 700 properties at Barton Hill Drive, Minster, Sheppey, were turned down by councillors earlier this year.

Applicant SW Attwood & Partners - run by Stephen Attwood - lodged an appeal.

The issue will be dealt with through a six-day public inquiry, starting on Tuesday, February 4, at 10am.

A venue is yet to be confirmed but in the past such hearings have been at Swale House in East Street, Sittingbourne.

Mr Attwood said: "It is of course very disappointing that the council refused permission because, after all, the site is allocated for housing in the council’s local plan.

"We have no alternative but to appeal which will be expensive but we will look to recover those costs from the council.

"Hopefully, planning permission will be granted otherwise ratepayers will be left with the cost of finishing the widening of Lower Road."
