A community interest company has helped to fund an Islander’s qualifications.

Eddie Johnson has passed a globally recognised yachtmaster course which means he can sail the vessels commercially around the world.

Bob Eatwell, chairman of the Queenborough Harbour Trust, watched by fellow members, presents Eddie Johnson with a cheque for £500.

Queenborough Harbour Trust successfully bid for £500 from the British Marine Federation to help towards the cost of the 50-year-old’s qualifications.

Mr Johnson, who is a former director of the trust and sometimes helps its trot service, intends to spend the money on a local knowledge test for the waters around Medway.

He said: “The yachtmaster course has opened up a lot of doors for me but I still have a lot of training left to do to achieve what I want to achieve.

“It’s extremely generous of Queenborough Harbour Trust.”
