Kim Green is the new family outreach coordinator at Seashells Children’s Centre

A familiar face at Seashells Children and Families’ Centre has taken up the reins in a different post.

Former breast-feeding peer support co-ordinator Kim Green is now the outreach co-ordinator for parents with youngsters aged up to five.

Her job is to engage with users of the building in Rose Street, Sheerness, by telling them about the different services on offer and encouraging them to go in and participate in groups.

She will working with other organisations using the centre, including health visitors and midwives and the 35-year-old is also head of a team of two outreach workers, who go round to families’ homes and signpost them in the right direction for any support they might need.

The Minster resident, who has worked at Seashells for three years, started her new job at the beginning of the month, but has been working behind the scenes getting everything in place.

She is now keen to publicise the fact she is there and hopes the parents of the 900 children registered at the centre will make themselves known to her so she can help them.

“It’s about engaging and being a face in the community,” she said.

“We can support families in any different aspect of their lives – there’s so many services we offer.

“It’s so enjoyable because every day is different.

“My job is meeting lots of different people; supporting families; making a difference to people’s lives; giving them the help and support they need and putting them in touch with the right people.”

Ms Green has taken over from former family outreach co-ordinator Steve Chevis, who is now managing all three children’s centres on the Island.

Meanwhile, Ms Green has nominated Seashells’ 15 helpers for national recognition.

They have been put forward for the Pre-School Learning Alliance’s outstanding volunteer team award.

Two representatives will be going to the next stage of the contest in London on Tuesday, May 7.
