A talented group of performers have staged their version of a story about a man-eating plant.

A cast of 26 students from year eight through to sixth form at the Isle of Sheppey Academy chose
the musical The Little Shop of Horrors for their summer production.

It was put on at the new theatre at the west site in Marine Parade, Sheerness, for local primary schools, VIPs including the Mayor of Swale Cllr Sue Gent and members of the public over three days last week.

The Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy musical about a nerdish florist who raises a giant man-eating plant and is based on a 1960s’ film of the same name.

The film was remade in 1986 starring Rick Moranis.

It is the first major production to be put on in the school’s new theatre and director Liz Ruth said it has been a huge success.

She thanked Ian Addis from Bonds who provided a van to pick up the huge fake plant and Tesco and the toy shop in Sheerness for their help providing other props.

“It was very enjoyable to watch and I was very impressed with the children, especially those who had overcome hurdles such as confidence,” she added.

“It was a very professional show and I have been impressed with the professionalism of the cast.”

She said they chose the story because they wanted to try something a bit different and outside the box.
