Maths GCSE is a breeze for Daniel

A brainy 10-year-old has scooped a B grade in GCSE maths.
Eastchurch Primary School pupil Daniel Dawson has been studying the subject at the Isle of Sheppey Academy.
He was amongst hundreds of 16 year olds who opened their results at the school’s east site in Minster today.
Chelsea fan Daniel was identified as a gifted and talented pupil by staff at the Warden Road primary school early on and he started studying maths at the academy last November.
His mum Anne, manager in the nursery at the primary school, said her son is above average in other subjects as well, although maths is his strong point, and she says it doesn’t run in the family.
Daniel’s younger sister Chloe-Anne, seven, says she doesn’t like maths and literacy is her favourite, while her brother admits he hates spelling.
Year five pupil Daniel is due to start full time at the academy in September, a year earlier than his current classmates, and he will continue to study GCSE maths in the hope he can achieve an A* this time next year.
He will be joining the year sevens for his studies in all other subjects and will be in Shurland school.
Daniel, who lives in Anne Boleyn Close, Eastchurch, with his mum, sister and dad Steven, says he hopes to be an accountant when he’s older.
He said he loves maths and it’s definitely his favourite subject although he admitted he was nervous at the start of the exam.
“I find maths mostly easy – a few bits are hard but then when it’s being explained to me I think 'that will be a breeze’,” he said.
Anne said they had expected Daniel to get a C grade in the exam so were even more delighted with the B.
She added: “We are really proud.
“The support from both schools has been fantastic and as a family we can’t thank them both enough.
“Eastchurch has supported him right the way through and now we are handing the reins over to the academy.
“All we can do is wait and see what happens – we are quite unsure what the future might bring.”
