Meeting places and visitor attractions across Sheppey have been shut due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Government has advised people to avoid unnecessary contact with others in a bid to stem the spread of the virus, known as Covid-19.

The Minster Abbey Gatehouse Museum was closed from Saturday until further notice.

A spokesman said: "A big thank-you to all our friends and volunteers that gave their support during the past years.

"Take care everyone and stay safe."

A Family History Day due to be held at the museum this coming Saturday has been postponed until a date yet to be set.

The Eastchurch Aviation Museum was also closed from Saturday.

A spokesman said: "The volunteers and trustees look forward to reopening as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We wish you all good health."

On Friday, Castle Connections in Queenborough announced it would be closing.

"As a community centre and charity we have had to make the very difficult decision that we will be closing to the public with effect from today," said a statement.

"This decision has been made taking into account the advice being given by the Government and also to protect our centre users as best we can.

"As a team we are very keen to support our community as much as we possibly can and will endeavour to do all we can when the time is right to re-open to our community.

"We would like to thank everyone for their kindness, support and loyalty this past week."

Meanwhile, Sheerness County Youth Centre has also been closed for the foreseeable future.

A post on its Facebook page said: "We would like to thank all our volunteers over the past few weeks who have strived to support us.

"We really couldn't have provided activities for young people without you!

"As soon as it is safe to open we'll be right back."
