It’s amazing what you can find when you potter around under the floorboards.

While planning an extension to his house in Parish Road, Minster, Richard Graham was surprised to discover two very large framed photographs beneath the suspended floor of his garage.

One is of a young sailor aged about 20, and the other of a baby aged six months or so, on the back of which is a pencilled date – 1962.

But the sepia toned images look much older – as do the heavy oval frames.

Richard, who moved in with his family in 2000, is curious about who they belong to.

“They were not wrapped or protected in any way, so one frame is slightly damaged and there’s a crack in the glass,” he said. “It seems odd they were left under the floorboards.”

The house was built in the 1960s and the 1962 date suggests they could belong to the first owner.

Richard says he’d like to return the pictures to the original owners, but is intrigued about their history and so has appealed for information from readers.
