DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a Kent teenager and the attempted murder of another man today urged people to think again about what they may have seen or heard on the night of the stabbings.

Police repeated their appeal on the day the funeral of 18-year-old Christopher Alaneme takes place at the Roman Catholic Church of St Anthony in Genoa Road, Penge.

Christopher, who lived on Sheppey, was killed in High Street, Sheerness, just before midnight on Friday April 21.

The officer leading the inquiry, Det Chief Inspector Jon Bumpus, said: "Christopher’s death was such a senseless loss of life. It has devastated his family and friends.

"He was a young man with his whole life ahead of him. We want justice for Christopher and his family deserve this too.

"People have already helped us with our appeals, but there is still someone out there who has information which will help us catch a murderer.

"I would appeal again to the public to call us with any information about this young man’s death, no matter how trivial they think it might be. It could be the piece of information we are looking for."

DCI Bumpus said his team were still appealing for anyone who was in or around the High Street in Sheerness just before midnight on April 21 to contact them.

He stressed: "It is important we speak to everyone who was in the High Street area late that night. Similarly, if you have heard someone say something relating to Christopher’s death, or know someone who’s behaviour changed after the dreadful events that evening, please get in touch."

Christopher’s mother, Agatha Alaneme, described her son as a "lovely, humble, respectful, polite and promising young man’ in an appeal in May.

Later, speaking on BBC’s Crimewatch programme, she said: "I feel very hurt, cheated and sad for what they have done to my boy, my only son. I don’t know how they can sleep."

So far five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. They have been released on police bail. A sixth man who was arrested in connection with the investigation was released without charge.
