Official opening for Island's newest school
Published: 11:17, 11 July 2012
A school shaped like a plane wing to reflect the Island’s aviation history has been opened.
Although pupils moved into the £4.3m extension of Eastchurch Primary School in November, the St Clement site in Leysdown Road was officially launched last Friday.
The building has seven classrooms packed with renewable-energy technology, including solar panels, water sensors on taps and underfloor heating and is home to 186 children.
At the opening ceremony, also attended by pupils from the school’s All Saints site in Eastchurch, there was a blessing by the Bishop of Dover, the Rt Rev Trevor Willmott.
Children’s author and artist Graham Clarke was also there.
Head teacher Michelle Crowe said: "We wanted to do the official opening before Year 6 left and also for all the plants and flowers to be on show so the site looked really nice."
A plaque was unveiled which will be placed in the entrance hall and the guests were given tours of the grounds by children.
