A high street pub that's set to be demolished and turned into flats and a micropub has been sold.

The Old House At Home, in Sheerness, was listed for sale by Clive Emson.

Jon Rimmer, auction appraiser, commenting before the auction, which was held today, said: “The pub is not trading at present and is situated in a prime position, close to the seafront, railway station, amenities and schools.

“The proposed development permission means the new owner can start to demolish right away.

"With the micropub on site there will still be a place for locals to drink.”

The pub, previously owned by Shepherd Neame, occupies a prominent position at the junction of High Street and Trinity Way, and has been serving pints for at least 150 years.

It closed its doors for the final time in 2020.

Last month, Swale council granted planning permission for the demolition of the pub and proposals to replace it with a three and four-storey residential building, including eight flats and a micropub on the ground floor.

The pub was sold prior to today's auction for an unknown price.

The freehold guide price had been £280-300,000.
